A massive thank you to all of my readers for bearing with my obscure but hopefully informative ramblings about writing and the sometimes quirky historical references. I wish you all a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year and hope you will continue to enjoy more from NITS (Not In The Script) in 2023.
But there’s more. Following my newsletter earlier this week about Telegraph Tower, the Napoleonic Wars signalling station on Alderney, I have been sent this artist’s impression by my neighbour Nick Collier.
The tower was built in 1809 and had a functional life of six years before falling into disrepair but is to be rescued in 2023 by the States of Alderney and those lovely people at Visit Alderney. Hope you can pay us a visit sometime…
And as the subject this week is about signalling, here’s a message in semaphore:
Merry Christmas, Alistair!
Presumably it has crossed your fertile mind that this tower could be the subject of a terrific short story?
Something to compose for the New Year, perhaps?
Maggie
p.s. Great photo, by the way.
