Al, this was gripping, and we're all fans of Sophie Wessex. Will you please ensure that the blonde hedgehog has his highlights regularly attended to, I'm having mine done tomorrow, can't wait.
Tell me, do you guys decamp to history imbued locations proactively or do you discover it all once you have moved there? Keep that quill going xx
Alistair, I have to say I'm mesmerised by your amazing Roman fort. I thought Caer Gybi on Anglesey was pretty bloody impressive, but Riduna runs rings round it.
Cerunnos...well, I love Jack Reacher, love Roman mystery, and clearly will love Alderney when I visit you. Some day.
Go for it, pleez! The Western/Roman mashup will be a new and exciting sub-genre, I have no doubt. Jacquie xxx
Thank you Jacquie – the research is daunting and I envy your knowledge so evident in the Governor's Man series. Let's hope my mashup doesn't become a hashup! Looking forward to having you guest here.
I hope you can bring in the Unelli (or Venellii on your map), as the people on Longis seem to have been using the same pottery/jewellery in their burial rites, and they are after all only a short (although risky) hop away across the Race...
That's so useful to know Phil. I'm currently at very early stage researching the Veneti and Osismi and reading JC's Gallic Wars so your Venelli pointer is very timely, thank you.
Fascinating piece, Alistair. I was amused to read recently that apparently the Earl of Wessex asked the late Queen (how poignant to type that for the first time...) if he could have that title because Shakespeare in Love is apparently his favourite film ever. Clearly a man of good taste.
Hi Alistair. I am retired..but forcibly and not voluntary. Covid wiped out everything. Or everything of the LITTLE we had left. Not had any payment other than pension for two years. But that's the way it goes. Hope all well with you and family. Bill x
